WHAT TO EXPECT

Colts here get worked five days each week, with weekends off with turnouts. The daily routine can vary from one to three hours. They receive the best of care while here:  good hay, spacious safe stalls, and plenty of exercise.

You are requested to be here as often as possible to learn along with your horse. I try to schedule your day with your horse's day. It doesn't always work out perfectly, but we keep trying. I want you to be here as much as possible so when you take your horse home,  you leave educated for the good of your horse. I begin from where the horse is mentally and physically. Sometimes they are farther along than you think; sometimes they are not. Every horse will have a foundation to work from when they leave. With a good foundation, any direction you choose to go will be much easier for both of you. Without a solid foundation you will be that much farther behind with little chance of ever catching up. I have been researching web sites of other horsemen and some trainers so I can make this as clear and informative as possible. One thing I have encountered along the way is that some trainers charge extra (separately) for things I do routinely such as ground work, halter work, picking up their feet, roundpen, trailer loading, preparation for saddling, saddling, preparation for the first ride; the actual first ride, etc.  The list just kept going for these additional costs.

When colts leave here they load and haul in a trailer; lead respectfully; have been exposed to a gauntlet of objects; been ridden inside and outside; will stand to be saddled, mounted and dismounted; will yield to leg and bit pressure; move forward and back up; have had ropes swung around them; and will have dragged objects on the ground. But, most important to me, is that YOU will be doing these things as well and not JUST me. For you to be able to do all this and feel safe and confident is my goal for both you and your horse. I enjoy helping horses and people realize their full potential. When it all comes together, it is the most rewarding experience that I know.
