This section is here to help you identify what I might do or suggest you do with a particular problem we are having. Some of these questions come up all the time and some are unique. If you have any questions, you can email me and maybe we can get something going for you.

Q.    I ride English. How is western Ranch Horsemanship going to benefit me?

A.    It won't - becoming a better, more complete horseman will. My wife rides English and western. She has dressage trainers very excited about how her horses are going.

Q.    My old trainer promises this or that in 30 days. Why don't you make these promises?

A.    You have my word on this:  I will be working on a foundation that can be built upon from the first day or your first clinic. Finding the truth in your horse and working from there is essential.

Q.    I would like to come to your clinic but I can't load my horse in the trailer. What should I do?

A.    We don't volunteer to try out a casket - at least I don't! I feel a horse must look at a trailer much the same way. Start preparing him far in advance. Lead him past you. Get him so you can send him to the end of your lead rope. Help him build confidence with some good groundwork. I try not to "bait" them in - it is just a band-aid and not addressing the real problem.

Q.    This is all well and good, but when I try it things don't turn out like when you do it. What should I do?

A.    I have been at this for a long time and made plenty of mistakes. Not trying is the biggest mistake. Go slower and reward more. Learn from your horses. Become a student of the horse.

Q.    My horse is really pushy. How can I get him to respect me?

A.    Most pushy horses are that way as a result of poor human contact. Horses by nature should be leery of man, then we have a natural respect. Taking this away from horses causes this problem. In your situation, your horse has to be reminded to back off. This can be pretty confusing to the horse so you have to be slow and consistent.

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS and would like my input, please email me at Ron@ranchhorsemanship.com and I will be glad to help you out.
